After settling on a design, he hired a local Westport Carpenter named Harry Bunnell to make a set of the chairs. Impressed by the design, Bunnell saw the commercial potential and began selling the chairs to Westport’s other visitors. Unfortunately, he… forgot… to ask Thomas Lee’s permission to sell the chairs. Bunnell filed for a patent on the design, and received one in 1905, despite not actually designing the chair. Bunnell sold the “Westport chairs”, made of Hemlock, for the next 20 years. Typically he would paint them green or brown, and he sold them directly to buyers.
They also need much less care than wooden furniture, as you do not need to varnish or refinish them every year. On the downside, resin furniture cannot be left out on hot days for very long, as this can cause the material to melt. It can also become very hot, which is not a positive thing in a chair. In addition, resin is not a traditional material for Adirondack furniture, and it may be hard to produce the home-spun effect of Adirondack in a plastic chair. While purchasing ready-made resin furniture can be expensive, getting together the kit to construct your own resin chair could turn out to be very costly.
I know you’re saying, “Get to the point, what’s the best material for outdoor furniture?” I hate to leave you on the fence but the final decision is ultimately up to you. If you want something lightweight, chic, modern, and low-maintenance, go with synthetic resin wicker furniture. Looking for wood furniture suitable for the outdoors, go with teak. Looking for metal furniture? Stick with aluminum unless you want an eclectic design. In that case, wrought iron will likely offer more ornate options. Plastic Resin – Plastic resin is cheap, flimsy, unattractive, and fragile. Only good for temporary use. PVC Wicker – PVC wicker LOOKS like HDPE Wicker but when you find out what it’s really made of, you’ll see that it is not the best material to be used on outdoor furniture. Not only that, it is not recyclable like HDPE Wicker. Bare Metals – Bare metals will rust when exposed to rain and moisture. Make sure that any furniture you purchase is coated with a rust-proofing material. Where to Buy Outdoor Patio Furniture

We bought two of these yesterday in Las Vegas. We felt the same way having never sat in one, and were floored by the comfort. You mentioned they sell the side table and footstool online, but I’ve not been able to find either. Do you have any tips where to find them? Particularly the table. Great review!
What I had instead were two $5 plastic Adirondack chairs from the supermarket that were so flimsy, we were afraid to sit in them (yes, we may have toppled over once or twice when we sat).
